Bills of Materials that post to the ledger.
Most accounting software bolts manufacturing on as a separate module that ships its own out-of-sync inventory. Nonari treats manufacturing as a first-class ledger citizen — every component issue, every finished good produced, every variance posts in real time to the same trial balance.
Multi-level BOMs
Nest assemblies as deep as you need. A finished good can have sub-assemblies that have their own sub-assemblies. Costs roll up automatically.
Manufacturing orders
Issue an MO with planned quantities. The system reserves components, tracks WIP, and posts the variance to a variance account on close-out.
Real-time inventory impact
Components issued = inventory decrement at WAC. Finished goods produced = inventory increment at calculated unit cost. The trial balance never lies.
Component routing
Each BOM line carries the source location, qty, and scrap allowance. Issue route is configurable per-org.
WIP account
Open MOs sit in WIP. Closed MOs flush WIP to finished goods. The WIP balance equals the open MO total at any moment.
Overhead absorption
Apply labor + overhead per unit at MO close. Hardcoded rate or formula-driven (per labor hour, per machine hour).
Variance accounting
Material variance, labor variance, overhead variance — each post to its own GL account so you can analyse cost drift over time.
BOM templates
Save a BOM as a template; spin up new MOs without re-entering components. Version-controlled — old MOs reference the BOM version that was active at the time.
Manufacturing reports
Per-MO cost analysis, period cost-of-production, variance summary, scrap analysis. Drill from headline to JE.
Frequently asked.
Can I run discrete and process manufacturing?
Yes. Discrete (one finished unit per MO) and process (batch with yield variance) both work. The MO form switches based on the BOM type.
How does costing handle byproducts?
Define byproducts on the BOM with their own valuation method (net realisable value, hardcoded). Byproduct value offsets the primary good's cost.
Can I track WIP across multiple shop floors?
Yes. Each WIP location is a separate inventory location. An MO can route through multiple locations and the system tracks where the WIP physically sits.
